An eye doctor who has completed four years of specialized schooled in eye care and who has obtained the Doctor of Optometry degree or OD is known as an Optometrist. Four years of undergraduate work and four years of post graduate work as well as state licensing is a requirement of a Doctor of Optometry.
An Optometrist is an eye doctor who will perform an eye exam to determine any refractive error, certain medical issues concerned with the eye, and may participate in preoperative and postoperative eye care for those who have had eye surgery including lasik surgery, cataract surgery, and more.
